MIA: Flying 15

Another successful event concluded! Eight of the MIA's finest athletes soared to great heights on their way to completing the Flying 15. The challenge was to run the rarely raced distance of 15 km in the summer heat. However, a timely break in the relentless summer weather allowed for some faster than expected times and several personal bests...

Upcoming events

The MIA will hold a virtual marathon in the month of October for those affected by cancellations (Lou!) or who just want an extra challenge. Fingers crossed it won't be necessary for Kitakami entrants... In the meantime, ideas to add motivation for September training: a 30km or another half marathon? Please share your thoughts on these ideas or any other suggestions.

Half around the 11th-12th sounds good. Also like Wayne‘s idea for Nov! Sounds interesting!

That’s a good point Leigh. So let’s try another half marathon. Which week in September do you think would be the best in terms of timing?

Wayne, thanks for joining the blog. I can give you authorship rights if you’d like to make your own posts? It has a bit more permanence than Strava posts that tend to get lost after a few day.

Kitakami is scheduled for October 10. It's the only event in Iwate this autumn that hasn't been cancelled. Fingers crossed.

I like your 4-5 days of running idea. November and December will be a good time to try some different events like that - try to keep the motivation and reach those yea…

A half around the 11-12th of September would be perfect in my opinion. It might be a bit warm still, but I think it would still serve as an ideal leadup for Kitakami. In the meantime I will keep offering up my prayers to the Iwate Marathon Gods!

Possible event could Your Fastest Marathon in 5. Basically, try to get a personal best marathon time over 5 days of consecutive running. Simple math would have 4 days of 10kms each, with day of 2.2, or to keep us honest - 3kms. Could be something to do in November to close out before the snows come and hard running because hard. When is Kitakami? Could be the final speed week workout before that? A nice hard week before a couple of weeks of tapering? Ideas.

Love the recap! Personally, I'd love to do another half marathon in mid-September, just to check the fitness 3-4 weeks before Kitakami (fingers crossed!).. For me, a hard 30 in September might be putting my feet a little too close to the fire!
